Good posts deserve
Good posts deserve
to be read.
The 10 formatting rules to run every LinkedIn post through before you publish.
The gist
Run every post through this before you publish.
Formatting doesn't make a weak post good, but bad formatting stops a good post from being read. Three rules to start with:
- Hook in the first two lines. LinkedIn cuts off after about 210 characters and shows “…more”. Your scroll-stopper must land before that.
- One thought per line. On mobile, paragraphs become walls. White space is your only real formatting tool.
- End with one real question. Not “Agree?” or “Thoughts?”. A genuine question about their business.

The line-break trick
When you paste a draft into LinkedIn, it often collapses your blank lines into one block.
- Write directly in the LinkedIn box whenever you can. Line breaks behave correctly there.
- If you paste from a doc, re-add the blank lines after pasting, or draft in a plain notes app first (not Word, which adds hidden formatting).
Do / Don't
Do
- Short, punchy first line
- Plain text, let words carry it
- Lots of white space
- 3 hashtags at the very end
- A real question to close
- Link in the first comment if needed
Don't
- Long hook that gets cut mid-sentence
- Unicode bold or italics
- Dense paragraphs
- 6+ hashtags, or hashtags mid-text
- “Agree?” or “Thoughts?” bait
- A link inside the post body
